Proximity WorkStations are built to the highest quality standards. They have a longer life cycle and substantially less overall maintenance than other wall mounts. After years of service, often all they need is a factory refurbishment and/or upgrade to inexpensively maximize the return on your original investment.

Weight Test

With Proximity Systems’ hinge design assembly, the work surface has been tested by Southwestern Laboratories, an independent laboratory, and certified to meet and exceed requirements of ANSI/BIFMA X5.5. The workstation successfully passed the functional load test of 66 pounds for a duration of 60 minutes and the proof load test of 100 pounds for 15 minutes. The unit actually exceeded a proof load of 275 pounds with no resulting damage.

Based on this testing, it can reasonably be assumed that all Proximity Systems WorkStations, of the same materials of construction, hinge design, assembly process, with working surface widths of less than 36” should also withstand a load of up to 275 lbs.

Product Questions:
What does it mean when Proximity Systems says they build a custom product?

The staff at Proximity Systems is committed to providing a product that not only meets the customer's individual needs, but is also the best-built and most aesthetically pleasing product on the market. The Proximity Systems WorkStation is designed to perform to the customer's specifications, to house the equipment they wish to use, all with safety and aesthetics in mind. We start by understanding your specific and unique needs, including items such as the use of the room and workstation, IT considerations and individual ergonomics and aesthetics. In healthcare environments, we also consider patient care, clinician workflow and operating efficiencies when making recommendations.

How does Proximity Systems maintain competitive prices on products that are custom built?

All custom workstation manufacturing is done at our own plant here in the United States. This allows us to eliminate the middle man, control costs, meet your schedule and for us to maintain quality control. We understand budgets are very important. We also believe that considering the overall costs of a product, included features and maintenance costs should be considered.

Frequently, our product saves money because we can accommodate more standard, less expensively configured computer equipment. Maintenance cost of our product is very minimal, and the life of the product is very long. While our products may be slightly more than other turnkey-solutions, our customers have told us that our WorkStations prove to be a better investment than the product that has a cheaper initial cost.

How are the Proximity Systems WorkStations currently used?

The units are most often used in hospitals, medical clinics and doctor's offices; but offices, hotels, fire stations, radio stations and other businesses also use them. Our customers use the WorkStations in hallways, patient rooms, lobbies, conference rooms, training rooms, offices - anywhere space is a premium!

How do the WorkStations meet regulatory requirements?

There are many regulations and regulatory bodies that have some impact on our WorkStation products. Proximity Systems products normally meet all these requirements. Seldom is it a problem. However, since there are variables such as the dimensions of your equipment, the desired functionality, the location of the WorkStation, and local authorities, we recommend that our prospective customers verify compliance for whatever product is chosen, before an order is made. Although the Proximity Systems staff members are not experts in regulatory areas, as part of our strategic planning, we help customers navigate through this process. This is part of our detailed and dedicated customer service. The vast majority of these issues are quickly resolved and surprises are eliminated.

What are the dimensions of the products?

Our WorkStations are custom-designed, so most computer sizes can be accommodated. Every dimension of our products (height, width, depth) can vary, depending upon the specifications we are given. Therefore, we can only provide a general idea of dimensions for our standard products for planning purposes. Our most requested sizes are:
Regular : 28" wide x 42" high x 4.75" or 6" deep
Large :    36" wide x 42" high x 4.75" or 6" deep

How large of a computer can WorkStations accommodate?

The Proximity Systems WorkStations are custom built, and, therefore, can accommodate almost any equipment. In many cases, there are other factors that influence the WorkStation configuration. Our designers will help you work through all the issues, and design a product that will accommodate your needs.

How sturdy is the fold down (retractable) work surface?

With Proximity Systems’ hinge design assembly, the work surface has been tested by Southwestern Laboratories, an independent laboratory, and certified to exceed functional proof requirements of ANSI/BIFMA X5.5 static load test of 66 lbs for 60 minutes and a proof load test of 100 lbs for 15 minutes. The work surface actually exceeded a proof load of 275 lbs with no resulting damage.

What finishes or color choices do I have?

We offer choices to customize your workstation to match, complement, or contrast any décor with hundreds of brand name laminate finishes. Selections include High Pressure Laminate (HPL) from WilsonArt, as well as laminates from Nevamar, Formica, Pionite, Acrofin. Wood veneer, finishes, or custom digital laminates are available to give you the ability to have your workstation look exactly how you envision it.

What features and accessories are available?

Everything from custom-designed chart holders, locks, and storage unit/med boxes, to special lighting and functional features such as rotating workspaces, adjustable height and recessed wall-mounted units are available. Learn more about our options.

How many customers are using your workstations?

Founded in 1993, Proximity Systems has provided more than 1,000 leading healthcare facilities in North America with our wall-mounted, retractable WorkStations.

Do you provide or sell the computer equipment?

We currently do not sell the computer equipment that goes into our products. Most of our customers have better sources for this equipment.

Can a special unit be built for my specific needs?

Proximity Systems prides itself on tailoring our product to the customer's needs. We design innovative solutions to address our customers' problems. Our staff will work with you during each phase of the design process and help you create a comfortable work environment where space or other constraints might stand in the way.
